If a prosecuting attorney charges an individual with a violation of this chapter, or any other violation of the laws of this state, a conviction for which would result in the individual being prohibited from possessing a firearm, the prosecuting attorney shall not amend the charge in a manner that would allow the individual to legally possess a firearm if a conviction for the amended charge would not prohibit the individual from possessing a firearm.
