11 HOUSE BILL NO. 5139 A bill to limit the termination of the employment of legislative staffers who work directly for members of the legislature. the people of the state of michigan enact: Sec. 1. (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2), the employment of a legislative staffer who works directly for a member of the legislature may be terminated only by that member of the legislature and not by a member of the leadership of the majority caucus or minority caucus in either house of the legislature. (2) Subsection (1) does not apply if the legislative staffer has been convicted of a felony, or any crime involving moral turpitude, including, but not limited to, dishonesty or fraud, sexual assault, or assault.
