11 HOUSE BILL NO. 5321 A bill to provide for the reduction of the salaries of certain legislative staffs during certain periods; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities. the people of the state of michigan enact: Sec. 1. As used in this act, "policy-making staff in the legislature" means a policy director or advisor for the majority or minority political party, a budget director or advisor for the majority or minority political party, an employee assigned to a legislator's office in a policy-making capacity, or any other employee of the legislature other than an individual employed by the state in a clerical or non-policy-making capacity. Sec. 3. Notwithstanding any salary determination under any law to the contrary, in any year that the legislature adjourns a regular session without day before December 1, the salary of each policy-making staff in the legislature must be reduced by 25% for the time between that adjournment and the first day of the next regular session.
