                            house resolution no.126 Rep. Tsernoglou offered the following resolution: A resolution to declare June 2023 as Aphasia Awareness Month in the state of Michigan. Whereas, More than two million people in the United States have lost all or some of the ability to speak due to aphasia. However, 84.5% of Americans have never heard of the condition; and  Whereas, Aphasia is a disorder that results from damage to portions of the brain that are responsible for language. This disorder can affect a persons ability to understand, speak, read, write, and use numbers. However, it has no effect on a persons intelligence; and  Whereas, One of the biggest challenges for people affected by aphasia is the lack of awareness. Increasing awareness this month, and every month, can bring necessary recognition for people that are living with aphasia, or caring for a loved one affected by this disorder; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare June 2023 as Aphasia Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
