| 1 | 1 | | house resolution no.318 The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership, offered the following resolution: A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Rachel Hood. Whereas, The members of this legislative body are privileged to congratulate Representative Rachel Hood for her accomplishments in the House of Representatives. For six years, she has served the people of the Grand Rapids area with spirit and verve, demonstrating a fierce commitment to the betterment of our great state; and Whereas, Representative Hoods background in environmental and urban policy positioned her well to succeed in the Legislature. After earning a bachelors degree in social relations from James Madison College at Michigan State University, she became the executive director of the West Grand Neighborhood Organization, where she focused on crime prevention and community development. She later took on multiple consulting roles, served as the community relations manager at Metro Health Hospital, and worked as a strategist at Dig Deep Research, which helps municipalities secure funding for water and energy infrastructure projects. Representative Hood also served as the executive director of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council for a decade, working to improve stormwater management and promote clean energy solutions; and Whereas, Elected to represent the Seventy-sixth District in 2018, and now serving the Eighty-first District, Representative Hood has continued her work as an advocate for the environment. She introduced legislation to facilitate community solar programs, strengthen penalties for those who might endanger the Straits of Mackinac by damaging underwater energy infrastructure, and protect our states iconic sand dunes from potentially risky developments. Alongside her work on these and other policies, Representative Hoods committee work has focused on the appropriations process. A member of the Committee on Appropriations, her experience was recognized when she was made chair of the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy Subcommittee, vice chair of the General Government Subcommittee, and minority vice chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Subcommittee. She has also served as a member of the Appropriations subcommittees on Health and Human Services, Joint Capital Outlay, Military and Veterans Affairs and State Police, Natural Resources and Environmental Quality, School Aid and Department of Education, and Transportation; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of tribute to commend and thank the Honorable Rachel Hood for her notable contributions to this legislative body and to our state; and be it further Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Hood as an expression of our gratitude and best wishes. |
