8 | 8 | | 1.8 Subdivision 1.Definition.For purposes of this section, "Minnesota professional sports |

9 | 9 | | 1.9team" means one of the following teams while its home stadium is located in Minnesota: |

10 | 10 | | 1.10Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota |

12 | 12 | | 1.12 Subd. 2.General requirements and procedures.(a) The commissioner must issue |

13 | 13 | | 1.13Minnesota professional sports team foundation plates to an applicant who: |

14 | 14 | | 1.14 (1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, noncommercial one-ton pickup |
---|
15 | 15 | | 1.15truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle; |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1.16 (2) pays an additional fee in the amount specified for special plates under section 168.12, |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1.17subdivision 5; |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1.18 (3) pays the registration tax required under section 168.013; |
---|
19 | 19 | | 1.19 (4) pays the fees required under this chapter; |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1.20 (5) contributes a minimum of $30 annually to the professional sports team foundations |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1.21account; and |
---|

35 | 35 | | 2.6the commissioner must, in consultation with the foundation, adopt a suitable plate design |

36 | 36 | | 2.7incorporating the foundation's marks and colors. The commissioner may design a single |
---|
37 | 37 | | 2.8plate that incorporates the marks and colors of all foundations that have requested a plate. |

38 | 38 | | 2.9 Subd. 4.Plate transfers.On application to the commissioner and payment of a transfer |
---|
39 | 39 | | 2.10fee of $5, special plates issued under this section may be transferred to another motor vehicle |
---|
40 | 40 | | 2.11if the subsequent vehicle is: |

41 | 41 | | 2.12 (1) qualified under subdivision 2, paragraph (a), clause (1), to bear the special plates; |

42 | 42 | | 2.13and |

43 | 43 | | 2.14 (2) registered to the same individual to whom the special plates were originally issued. |

44 | 44 | | 2.15 Subd. 5.Contribution and fees credited.Contributions collected under subdivision 2, |

45 | 45 | | 2.16paragraph (a), clause (5), must be deposited in the Minnesota professional sports team |
---|
46 | 46 | | 2.17foundations account, which is established in the special revenue fund. Money in the account |
---|
47 | 47 | | 2.18is appropriated to the commissioner of public safety. This appropriation is first for the annual |
---|
48 | 48 | | 2.19cost of administering the account funds, and the remaining funds are for distribution to the |
---|
49 | 49 | | 2.20foundations in proportion to the total number of Minnesota professional sports team |
---|
50 | 50 | | 2.21foundation plates issued for that year. Proceeds from a plate that includes the marks and |
---|
51 | 51 | | 2.22colors of all foundations must be divided evenly between all foundations. The foundations |
---|
52 | 52 | | 2.23must only use the proceeds for philanthropic or charitable purposes. |
---|
53 | 53 | | 2.24 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2024, for Minnesota |
---|
54 | 54 | | 2.25professional sports team foundation special plates issued on or after that date. |
