1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to career preparedness; supporting and strengthening the career pathways 1.3 program; appropriating money; requiring a report. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; CAREER PATHWAYS PROGRAM. 1.6 Subdivision 1.Program description.The career pathways program must encourage, 1.7support, and provide continuity for student participation in structured career pathways. 1.8 Subd. 2.Appropriation.(a) $500,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the 1.9workforce development fund to the Department of Labor and Industry for a grant to 1.10Independent School District No. 294, Houston, for the Minnesota Virtual Academy's career 1.11pathways program with Operating Engineers Local 49. The program may include up to five 1.12semesters of courses and must lead to eligibility into the Operating Engineers Local 49 1.13apprenticeship program. 1.14 (b) The grant may be used to encourage and support student participation in the career 1.15pathways program through additional academic, counseling, and other support services 1.16provided by the student's enrolling school district. The Minnesota Virtual Academy may 1.17contract with a student's enrolling school district to provide these services. 1.18 (c) This appropriation does not cancel and is available until June 30, 2027. 1.19 Subd. 3.Career pathways outreach.The career pathways program must provide 1.20outreach to and encourage participation in its programming by students of color, Indigenous 1.21students, students from families with low income, students located throughout Minnesota, 1.22and underserved students. 1Section 1. A grant award 2.4and report must be in accordance with the provisions of Minnesota Statutes, sections 3.195 2.5and 127A.20. The report must describe students' experiences with the program. The report 2.6must document the program's spending and the number of students participating in the 2.7program and entering into the apprenticeship program. The report must include geographic 2.8and demographic information on the program participants, make recommendations to 2.9improve the support of career pathways programs statewide, and make recommendations 2.10to improve student participation in career pathways programs. 2Section 1.
