1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to transportation; amending vehicle registration tax for disabled veterans; 1.3 amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 168.013, subdivision 8, by adding a 1.4 subdivision. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 168.013, is amended by adding a subdivision 1.7to read: 1.8 Subd. 1n.Disabled veterans.For a vehicle owned by a disabled veteran, the tax imposed 1.9by subdivision 1a must be reduced so that the owner pays a percentage of that tax amount 1.10that corresponds with the veteran's disability rating percentage as determined by the United 1.11States Department of Veterans Affairs. Only one vehicle at a time per owner is eligible for 1.12this reduction. 1.13 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 168.013, subdivision 8, is amended to read: 1.14 Subd. 8.Tax proceeds to highway user fund; fee proceeds to driver and vehicle 1.15services operating account.(a) Unless otherwise specified in this chapter, the net proceeds 1.16of the registration tax imposed under this chapter must be collected by the commissioner, 1.17paid into the state treasury, and credited to the highway user tax distribution fund. 1.18 (b) All fees collected under this chapter, unless otherwise specified, must be deposited 1.19in the driver and vehicle services operating account under section 299A.705. 1.20 (c) By July 15 of each fiscal year, the commissioner of management and budget must 1.21transfer from the general fund to the highway user tax distribution fund an amount equal to 1.22the total of the tax reductions made under subdivision 1n in the preceding fiscal year. 1Sec. 2.
