1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to corrections; requiring the commissioner of corrections to maintain a 1.3 supply of opiate antagonists to administer to persons who overdose in correctional 1.4 facilities; requiring the commissioner to provide training to employees on how to 1.5 administer opiate antagonists; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 1.6 chapter 241. 1.7BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.8 Section 1. [241.76] OPIATE ANTAGONISTS. 1.9 (a) The commissioner must maintain a supply of opiate antagonists, as defined in section 1.10604A.04, subdivision 1, at each correctional facility to be administered in compliance with 1.11section 151.37, subdivision 12. 1.12 (b) The commissioner must store an ample number of doses of nasal opiate antagonists 1.13throughout each facility so that staff can rapidly respond to opioid overdoses. 1.14 (c) The commissioner, in consultation with the commissioner of health, shall provide 1.15training to employees of the department on recognizing the symptoms of an opiate overdose 1.16and how to administer nasal opiate antagonists. 1Section 1.
