66 1.6 Section 1. [92.84] PROHIBITING SALE OF PROPERTY IN BOUNDARY WATERS​
77 1.7CANOE AREA WILDERNESS.​
88 1.8 Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the commissioner of natural resources must​
99 1.9not sell any state-owned land wholly or partially located in the Boundary Waters Canoe​
1010 1.10Area Wilderness. For purposes of this section, "state-owned land" means state land for​
1111 1.11which the school trust interest was extinguished through condemnation, university lands​
1212 1.12granted to the state by acts of Congress, and all other lands acquired by the state in any​
1313 1.13manner and under the control of the commissioner of natural resources. Nothing in this​
1414 1.14section prohibits an otherwise valid exchange of land wholly or partially located in the​
1515 1.15Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for other land.​
1616 1.16 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.​
1717 1.17 Sec. 2. REPEALER.​
1818 1.18 Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 92.82, is repealed.​

2828 CANOE AREA WILDERNESS; COOK, LAKE, AND ST. LOUIS COUNTIES.​
2929 (a) Notwithstanding sections 92.06, 92.13, 92.14, 92.45, 94.09, and 94.10, the commissioner​
3030 of natural resources may sell to the United States by private sale the surplus land, including the​
3131 land bordering public water, that is described in paragraph (d).​
3232 (b) The conveyance must be in a form approved by the attorney general. The attorney general​
3333 may make necessary changes to the legal description to correct errors and ensure accuracy.​
3434 (c) Notwithstanding sections 92.115, 92.12, and 94.10, an appraisal of the lands is not required,​
3535 and the value of the lands shall be determined in the same manner as the exchange with the United​
3636 States of other state-owned lands within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.​
3737 (d) The land that may be sold is state-owned land under the control of the commissioner of​
3838 natural resources and located within the boundary of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness​
3939 in Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Counties. The state-owned lands may include the state land for which​
4040 the school trust interest was extinguished through condemnation, university lands granted to the​
4141 state by acts of Congress, and all other lands acquired by the state in any manner and under the​
4242 control of the commissioner of natural resources.​
4343 (e) Conveyance of state lands within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the United​
4444 States will preserve the spectacular wild areas while producing economic benefits for the state.​
4545 (f) Payment for state lands for which the school trust interest was extinguished through​
4646 condemnation shall be used to pay the award under the condemnation action.​
