1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to energy; appropriating money to construct a geothermal energy system.
1.3BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.4 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; GEOTHERMAL ENERGY SYSTEM.
1.5 (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, paragraph (j),
1.6$2,250,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the renewable development account
1.7established in Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, to the commissioner of
1.8commerce for a grant to Como Zoo in the city of St. Paul to construct a geothermal energy
1.9system that provides space heating and cooling to the large cats building.
1.10 (b) For the purposes of this section, "geothermal energy system" means a system
1.11composed of a heat pump that moves a heat-transferring fluid through piping embedded in
1.12the earth and absorbs the earth's constant temperature, a heat exchanger, and ductwork to
1.13distribute heated and cooled air to a building.
