                            1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to elections; proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution,​
1.3 article V, section 2; providing term limits for governor and lieutenant governor.​
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.5 Section 1. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.​
1.6 An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to the people. If the amendment​
1.7is adopted, article V, section 2, will read:​
1.8 Sec. 2. The term of office for the governor and lieutenant governor is four years and​
1.9until a successor is chosen and qualified. Each shall have attained the age of 25 years and,​
1.10shall have been a bona fide resident of the state for one year next preceding his election,​
1.11and shall be a citizen of the United States. To limit overreaching power by any political​
1.12party, a person must not be elected more than twice to the office of governor nor more than​
1.13twice to the office of lieutenant governor.​
1.14 Sec. 2. SUBMISSION TO VOTERS.​
1.15 (a) The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2026 general election.​
1.16The question submitted must be:​
1.17 "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to place limits on the number of terms​
1.18of office that the governor and lieutenant governor may serve beginning in 2026 in order​
1.19to limit overreaching power by any political party?​

The bill was read for the first time and referred to the Committee on Elections Finance and Government Operations​ 2.1 (b) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 204D.15, subdivision 1, the title for​
2.2the question submitted to the people under paragraph (a) shall be "A constitutional​
2.3amendment to place term limits on the offices of governor and lieutenant governor."​
2.4 Sec. 3. APPLICABILITY.​
2.5 Elections prior to the 2026 general election must be included in determining the limits​
2.6imposed by the amendment in this act.​
