66 1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
77 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 631.50, is amended to read:​
88 1.8 631.50 ALIEN INMATES OR MENTALLY ILL PERSONS; NOTICE TO UNITED​
99 1.9STATES IMMIGRATION OFFICERS.​
1010 1.10 (a) When a person who is convicted of a felony or is found to be a person who is mentally​
1111 1.11ill is committed to the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater, the Minnesota Correctional​
1212 1.12Facility-St. Cloud custody of the commissioner of corrections, the a county jail, or any other​
1313 1.13state or county institution which is supported, wholly or in part, by public funds, the chief​
1414 1.14executive officer, sheriff, or other officer in charge of the state or county institution shall​
1515 1.15at once inquire into the nationality of the person. If it appears that the person is an​
1616 1.16undocumented alien, the officer shall immediately notify the United States immigration​
1717 1.17officer in charge of the district in which the correctional facility, jail, or other institution is​
1818 1.18located of (1) the date of the conviction and the reasons for crime for which the alien​
1919 1.19commitment was convicted, (2) the length of time for which committed, (3) the country of​
2020 1.20which the alien is a citizen, and (4) the date on which and the port at which the alien last​
2121 1.21entered the United States.​
2222 1.22 (b) When a person who is found to be either a person who has a mental illness and is​
2323 1.23dangerous to the public, as defined in section 253B.02, subdivision 17, or a person who​

4242 2.10 Sec. 2. INMATE IMMIGRATION STATUS REVIEW.​
4343 2.11 By September 1, 2025, the commissioner of corrections, chief executive officer, sheriff,​
4444 2.12or other officer in charge of a state or county institution which is supported, wholly or in​
4545 2.13part, by public funds that houses persons serving a felony sentence shall inquire into the​
4646 2.14nationality of each person in their custody who is serving a felony sentence. If it appears​
4747 2.15that the person is an undocumented alien, the officer shall immediately notify the United​
4848 2.16States immigration officer in charge of the district in which the correctional facility, jail, or​
4949 2.17other institution is located of (1) the date of the conviction and the crime for which the alien​
5050 2.18was convicted, (2) the length of time for which the alien is committed, (3) the country of​
5151 2.19which the alien is a citizen, and (4) the date on which and the port at which the alien last​
5252 2.20entered the United States.​
