1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to agriculture; modifying the Board of Animal Health; amending Minnesota 1.3 Statutes 2024, section 35.02, subdivision 1. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 35.02, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.6 Subdivision 1.Members; officers.The board has seven 11 members appointed by the 1.7governor with the advice and consent of the senate, three of whom are producers of livestock 1.8in the state; one of whom is a member of a federally recognized Tribe located in Minnesota 1.9who is experienced in animal husbandry; and three of whom are practicing veterinarians 1.10licensed in Minnesota, one of whom specializes in companion animals two at-large members, 1.11one member who is a member of a federally recognized Tribe located in Minnesota, and 1.12eight regional members, with no two regional members residing in the same congressional 1.13district. Members must be knowledgeable in animal agriculture, animal health, or pets and 1.14companion animals, with at least two members who represent the public and are not employed 1.15in agriculture, veterinary medicine, the pet industry, or a related field. To the extent 1.16practicable, the governor's appointments must achieve gender and geographic balance among 1.17the board membership. The commissioners of agriculture, natural resources, and health, the 1.18dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the director of the Veterinary Diagnostic 1.19Laboratory of the University of Minnesota may shall serve as consultants to the board 1.20without vote. Appointments to fill unexpired terms must be made from the classes to which 1.21the retiring members belong. The board shall elect a president and a vice-president from 1.22among its members and. The governor shall appoint a veterinarian licensed in Minnesota 1Section 1.
