1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to workforce development; appropriating money for grants to nonprofits 1.3 to train students in global competency skills. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. GLOBAL COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT PILOT PROGRAM; 1.6APPROPRIATION. 1.7 $3,000,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner 1.8of employment and economic development for a pilot program to provide grants to one or 1.9more nonprofit organizations to train students at multiple sites statewide in global competency 1.10skills necessary for future workforce competitiveness, including critical thinking, 1.11collaboration, comfort with unfamiliar situations, and forming opinions based on evidence. 1.12Grant recipients must obtain a minimum 25 percent nonstate match to any grant award. 1.13Funds may be used for program costs, including teacher training, curriculum development, 1.14and support to participating schools.
