1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to elections; requiring notice at a closed polling place until the occurrence 1.3 of a presidential election or redistricting; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, 1.4 section 204B.16, subdivision 1a. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 204B.16, subdivision 1a, is amended to read: 1.7 Subd. 1a.Notice to voters.(a) If the location of a polling place has been changed, the 1.8governing body establishing the polling place shall send to every affected household with 1.9at least one registered voter in the precinct a nonforwardable mailed notice stating the 1.10location of the new polling place at least 25 days before the next election. The secretary of 1.11state shall prepare a sample of this notice. A notice that is returned as undeliverable must 1.12be forwarded immediately to the county auditor. This subdivision paragraph does not apply 1.13to a polling place location that is changed on election day under section 204B.175. 1.14 (b) If the location of a polling place has been changed, the local official for the governing 1.15body establishing the polling place must post a notice in large print and in a conspicuous 1.16place at the closed polling place, if practical, stating the location of the new polling place. 1.17The local election official must also post the notice, if practical, in a location visible by 1.18voters who vote from their motor vehicles as provided in section 204C.15, subdivision 2. 1.19The notice must be in all languages required under section 204B.295 for that precinct. The 1.20notice must be posted for each special, primary, and general election until a general 1.21presidential election or redistricting has occurred.
