55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. [168.1261] DONATE LIFE PLATES.​
77 1.7 Subdivision 1.Issuance of plates.The commissioner must issue Donate Life special​
88 1.8plates or a single motorcycle plate to an applicant who:​
99 1.9 (1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, noncommercial one-ton pickup​
1010 1.10truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle;​
1111 1.11 (2) pays a fee in the amount specified for special plates under section 168.12, subdivision​
1212 1.125, along with any other fees required under this chapter;​
1313 1.13 (3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013;​
1414 1.14 (4) contributes a minimum of $25 annually to the organ and tissue donation account;​
1515 1.15and​
1616 1.16 (5) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles and​
1717 1.17licensing of drivers.​
1818 1.18 Subd. 2.Design.The commissioner must adopt a suitable plate design that includes a​
1919 1.19nationally standard organ, eye, and tissue donation logo and the inscription "Donate Life."​

3232 2.4 (1) qualified under subdivision 1, clause (1), to bear the special plates; and​
3333 2.5 (2) registered to the same individual to whom the special plates were originally issued.​
3434 2.6 Subd. 4.Exemption.Special plates issued under this section are not subject to section​
3535 2.7168.1293, subdivision 2.​
3636 2.8 Subd. 5.Contributions; account; appropriation.Contributions collected under​
3737 2.9subdivision 1, clause (4), must be deposited in the organ and tissue donation account, which​
3838 2.10is established in the special revenue fund. Money in the account is appropriated to the​
3939 2.11commissioner. This appropriation is first for the annual cost of administering the account​
4040 2.12funds, and the remaining funds are for distribution to the nonprofit organization LifeSource​
4141 2.13to further its activities related to organ, eye, and tissue donation, including donation registry​
4242 2.14maintenance, education, and outreach.​
4343 2.15 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2026, for Donate Life special​
4444 2.16plates issued on or after that date.​
