66 1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
77 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 45.0135, subdivision 2a, is amended to read:​
88 1.8 Subd. 2a.Authorization.(a) The commissioner may appoint peace officers, as defined​
99 1.9in section 626.84, subdivision 1, paragraph (c), and establish a law enforcement agency, as​
1010 1.10defined in section 626.84, subdivision 1, paragraph (f), known as the Commerce Fraud​
1111 1.11Bureau, to conduct investigations, and to make arrests under sections 629.30 and 629.34.​
1212 1.12The primary jurisdiction of the law enforcement agency is limited to offenses with a nexus​
1313 1.13to insurance-related crimes or financial crimes.​
1414 1.14 (b) Upon request and at the commissioner's discretion, the Commerce Fraud Bureau​
1515 1.15may respond to a law enforcement agency's request to exercise law enforcement duties in​
1616 1.16cooperation with the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over the particular matter.​
1717 1.17 (c) The Commerce Fraud Bureau must allocate at least 70 percent of its work to insurance​
1818 1.18fraud, as defined in sections 60A.951, subdivision 4, and 609.611.​
1919 1.19 (d) Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the commissioner of commerce is​
2020 1.20responsible for the functions, programs, personnel, powers, responsibilities, duties, and​
2121 1.21oversight of the Commerce Fraud Bureau.​
