1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to state employees; mandating a minimum wage for certain state interns; 1.3 proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 43A. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. [43A.60] STATE INTERNSHIPS; MINIMUM WAGE. 1.6 A state intern is eligible for a minimum wage of at least $15 per hour if the state intern 1.7is eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant based on the federal needs analysis and is enrolled 1.8for nine semester credits per term or more, or the equivalent. For purposes of this section, 1.9state intern has the meaning given under section 43A.02, subdivision 24, and includes an 1.10intern working in a designated internship for the executive, legislative, or judicial branch. 1.11This section does not apply to state interns who meet the criteria for an unpaid internship 1.12under federal labor laws. 1Section 1.
