11 1.1 A bill for an act​
22 1.21.3 relating to crime; increasing the penalty for embezzlement of public funds over a​

44 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
55 1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.54, is amended to read:​
66 1.6 609.54 EMBEZZLEMENT OF PUBLIC FUNDS.​
77 1.7 Whoever does an act which constitutes embezzlement under the provisions of Minnesota​
88 1.8Constitution, article XI, section 13 may be sentenced as follows:​
99 1.9 (1) if the value of the funds so embezzled is $2,500, or less, to imprisonment for not​
1010 1.10more than five years or to payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both; or​
1111 1.11 (2) if such value is more than $2,500 but less than $100,000, to imprisonment for not​
1212 1.12more than ten years or to payment of a fine of not more than $20,000, or both; or​
1313 1.13 (3) if such value is $100,000 or more, to imprisonment for not more than 20 years or to​
1414 1.14payment of a fine of not more than $50,000, or both.​
1515 1.15 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to crimes​
1616 1.16committed on or after that date.​
