                            1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to workforce development; requiring a report; appropriating money for a​
1.3 grant to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office for a child care pilot program to​
1.4 assist with retention of law enforcement and first responders.​
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.6 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; WOMENVENTURE.​
1.7 (a) $1,000,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the workforce development fund​
1.8to the commissioner of employment and economic development for a grant to the Hennepin​
1.9County Sheriff's Office for a pilot program with WomenVenture to recruit a cohort of child​
1.10care providers to provide services for the minor children of law enforcement and other first​
1.11responders that will accommodate shift work and abnormal work hours and enhance​
1.12employee recruitment and retention. Grant money may be used to provide technical support,​
1.13loan accessibility, business plan development, geographic needs assessment, and start-up​
1.14and training cost subsidies to cohort providers, as well as to fund scholarships for​
1.15participating families. This is a onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2027.​
1.16 (b) By December 1, 2027, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office must submit a report​
1.17to the chairs and raking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction​
1.18over child care, public safety, and employment and economic development. The report must​
1.19include a summary of the uses of the appropriation and recommendations to implement​
1.20future child care programs to enhance recruitment and retention for law enforcement and​
1.21other first responders.​
