44 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
55 1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 120B.20, is amended to read:​
66 1.6 120B.20 PARENTAL CURRICULUM REVIEW.​
77 1.7 (a) Each school district shall have a procedure for a parent, guardian, or an adult student,​
88 1.818 years of age or older, to review the content of the instructional materials to be provided​
99 1.9to a minor child or to an adult student and, if the parent, guardian, or adult student objects​
1010 1.10to the content, to make reasonable arrangements with school personnel for alternative​
1111 1.11instruction. Alternative instruction may be provided by the parent, guardian, or adult student​
1212 1.12if the alternative instruction, if any, offered by the school board does not meet the concerns​
1313 1.13of the parent, guardian, or adult student. The school board is not required to pay for the​
1414 1.14costs of alternative instruction provided by a parent, guardian, or adult student. School​
1515 1.15personnel may not impose an academic or other penalty upon a student merely for arranging​
1616 1.16alternative instruction under this section. School personnel may evaluate and assess the​
1717 1.17quality of the student's work.​
1818 1.18 (b) A request for alternative instruction is an individual decision and does not affect​
1919 1.19access to instructional materials for other students.​
2020 1.20 (c) For the purposes of this section, "instructional materials" include online materials or​
2121 1.21media assigned or distributed as part of a structured district or school curricular program.​
