1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to agriculture; appropriating money for heritage oilseeds and grains.
1.3BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.4 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; HERITAGE OILSEEDS AND GRAINS.
1.5 $500,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
1.6of agriculture for transfer to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota to evaluate,
1.7propagate, and maintain the genetic diversity of oilseeds, grains, grasses, legumes, and other
1.8plants including flax, timothy, barley, rye, triticale, alfalfa, orchard grass, clover, and other
1.9species and varieties that were in commercial distribution and use in Minnesota prior to
1.101970, excluding wild rice. This money must also be used to protect traditional seeds brought
1.11to Minnesota by immigrant communities. This appropriation includes funding for associated
1.12extension and outreach to small farmers and farmers who are Black, Indigenous, and People
1.13of Color.
