1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to elections; authorizing individuals under the age of 18 to vote at a primary 1.3 election in certain circumstances; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 1.4 201.014, subdivision 1. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 201.014, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.7 Subdivision 1.Requirements.(a) Except as provided in subdivision 2, an individual 1.8who meets the following requirements at the time of an election is eligible to vote. The 1.9individual must: 1.10 (1) be 18 years of age or older; 1.11 (2) be a citizen of the United States; and 1.12 (3) maintain residence in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding the election. 1.13 (b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a), clause (1), an individual who has not reached 18 1.14years of age but who meets all other eligibility requirements for voting may cast a ballot at 1.15a primary election or presidential nomination primary, for purposes of nominating candidates 1.16to be voted on at the subsequent general election, if the individual will be 18 years of age 1.17or older at the time the general election is held. The ballot provided to an individual 1.18authorized to vote under this paragraph must be prepared so that the individual may vote 1.19only for the candidates seeking nomination for office and not for any question or proposition. 1Section 1.
