1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to public safety; providing for an annual grant to the Minnesota Federated
1.3 Humane Societies; requiring reports; appropriating money.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; GRANT TO THE MINNESOTA FEDERATED
1.6HUMANE SOCIETIES.
1.7 (a) $850,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $850,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.8the general fund to the commissioner of public safety for an annual grant to the Minnesota
1.9Federated Humane Societies established under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 343. This annual
1.10grant must be used to support animal cruelty investigations, increase capacity, and provide
1.11training and education. This appropriation is added to the Department of Public Safety's
1.12base budget.
1.13 (b) Each year by January 15, the commissioner of public safety must submit a report on
1.14how the grant was used under paragraph (a) to the chairs and ranking minority members of
1.15the legislative committees with jurisdiction over public safety policy and finance.
