1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to game and fish; modifying restrictions on discharging firearms near 1.3 livestock corrals; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.001, subdivision 1.4 7. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.001, subdivision 7, is amended to read: 1.7 Subd. 7.Using firearms and taking in certain areas.(a) Unless otherwise provided 1.8by law, a person may not discharge a firearm within 500 feet of a building occupied by a 1.9human or livestock without the written permission of the owner, occupant, or lessee: 1.10 (1) on another person's private land, if the land is not a licensed shooting preserve; or 1.11 (2) on a public road right-of-way. 1.12 (b) No person may discharge a firearm within 500 feet of a stockade or corral confining 1.13livestock for the purpose of normal livestock holding or sorting operations without the 1.14permission of the owner, occupant, or lessee. This paragraph does not apply to persons 1.15hunting during an established hunting season on state-owned or local government-owned 1.16land that is not a road right-of-way. This paragraph does not apply to a person discharging 1.17a firearm on land that is owned by the person or by an immediate family member of the 1.18person. For the purposes of this paragraph, a "stockade or corral" means a fenced enclosure 1.19for confining livestock that does not enclose an area greater than one acre. 1.20 (c) A person may not take a wild animal on any land where the person is prohibited from 1.21entering by this section. 1Section 1.
