1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to state government; requiring the attorney general to reimburse legal costs
1.3 of Mille Lacs County; appropriating money.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. COUNTY REIMBURSEMENT .
1.6 The attorney general must reimburse Mille Lacs County $7,800,000 for litigation costs
1.7incurred prior to 2024 to defend the lawsuit, Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, et al. v. County
1.8of Mille Lacs, Minnesota, et al., Case No. 17-CV-05155, and all appeals from that suit. The
1.9payment must be made by June 30, 2026.
1.10 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
1.11 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION.
1.12 $....... in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the attorney general
1.13to make the payment required in section 1.
