1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to state government; requiring a report on vacant state office space. 1.3BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.4 Section 1. REPORT ON VACANT STATE OFFICE SPACE. 1.5 The commissioner of administration must report by February 15, 2026, to the chairs and 1.6ranking minority members of the legislative committees with primary jurisdiction over the 1.7budget of the Department of Administration, cataloging office space owned or leased by 1.8the state. The report should describe how much of the owned and leased office space is 1.9substantially vacant. The report must detail whether and how the vacant space can be 1.10converted into housing and how much revenue can be returned to the state through rental 1.11or sale of the repurposed property. The commissioner is authorized to obtain estimates on 1.12the cost of converting vacant state office space to housing and to contract for a study on 1.13real estate market conditions to provide a basis for the evaluation of the revenue that could 1.14be returned to the state through rental or sale of the repurposed property. 1Section 1.
