1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to transportation; authorizing placement of automated license plate readers 1.3 in certain highway rights-of-way; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 1.4 160.27, by adding a subdivision. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 160.27, is amended by adding a subdivision 1.7to read: 1.8 Subd. 15.Automated license plate readers.(a) For purposes of this subdivision, the 1.9following terms have the meanings given: 1.10 (1) "automated license plate reader" has the meaning given in section 13.824, subdivision 1.111; 1.12 (2) "highway authority" means the commissioner with respect to trunk highways, and 1.13a county with respect to county state-aid highways and county highways under its jurisdiction; 1.14and 1.15 (3) "law enforcement agency" has the meaning given in section 626.84, subdivision 1, 1.16paragraph (f). 1.17 (b) Notwithstanding section 160.2715, a local law enforcement agency may place and 1.18operate an automated license plate reader at a stationary location within the right-of-way 1.19of a trunk highway, county state-aid highway, or county highway if: 1.20 (1) the law enforcement agency provides notice to the highway authority that: 1.21 (i) is submitted at least 14 days prior to placement at, and immediately following removal 1.22from, each location; and 1Section 1.
