55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.031, is amended by adding a subdivision​
77 1.7to read:​
88 1.8 Subd. 7.Regular firearms deer season.During the regular firearms deer season, all​
99 1.9legal firearms may be used statewide.​
1010 1.10 Sec. 2. REPORT.​
1111 1.11 By December 1, 2028, the commissioner of natural resources must report to the chairs​
1212 1.12and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over​
1313 1.13environment and natural resources on the effect of eliminating the shotgun zone on deer​
1414 1.14hunting and deer populations. The report may include any recommendations for additional​
1515 1.15statutory or policy changes that the commissioner deems advisable.​
1616 1.16 Sec. 3. REPEALER.​
1717 1.17 Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.318, is repealed.​

3030 legal handguns may be used for taking deer. Legal shotguns include those with rifled barrels. The​
3131 shotgun use area is that portion of the state lying within the following described boundary: Beginning​
3232 on the west boundary of the state at the northern boundary of Clay County; thence along the northern​
3333 boundary of Clay County to State Trunk Highway (STH) 32; thence along STH 32 to STH 34;​
3434 thence along STH 34 to Interstate Highway 94 (I-94); thence along I-94 to County State-Aid​
3535 Highway (CSAH) 40, Douglas County; thence along CSAH 40 to CSAH 82, Douglas County;​
3636 thence along CSAH 82 to CSAH 22, Douglas County; thence along CSAH 22 to CSAH 6, Douglas​
