55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.2231, subdivision 2, is amended to read:​
77 1.7 Subd. 2.Firefighters and emergency medical personnel.Whoever physically assaults​
88 1.8any of the following persons and inflicts demonstrable bodily harm onto a member of a​
99 1.9municipal or volunteer fire department or emergency medical services personnel unit in the​
1010 1.10performance of the member's duties is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to​
1111 1.11imprisonment for not more than two years or to payment of a fine of not more than $4,000,​
1212 1.12or both:.​
1313 1.13 (1) a member of a municipal or volunteer fire department or emergency medical services​
1414 1.14personnel unit in the performance of the member's duties; or​
1515 1.15 (2) a physician, nurse, or other person providing health care services in a hospital​
1616 1.16emergency department.​
1717 1.17 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to crimes​
1818 1.18committed on or after that date.​
1919 1.19 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.2231, is amended by adding a subdivision​
