1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to public safety; appropriating money for weather forecasting gap-filling 1.3 radar data. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; WEATHER FORECASTING GAP-FILLING RADAR 1.6DATA. 1.7 $1,270,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $2,050,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from 1.8the general fund to the commissioner of public safety for the director of Homeland Security 1.9and Emergency Management Division to procure weather forecasting gap-filling radar data 1.10and services for the purposes of: (1) filling five critical gaps in low-level observations in 1.11Minnesota in the first year and eight critical gaps in subsequent years to inform weather 1.12planning, preparation, and response; and (2) enhancing and improving public safety across 1.13Minnesota. Radar data procured from this appropriation must also be made available to the 1.14Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation, and Minnesota Pollution Control 1.15Agency. The base for this appropriation is $2,050,000 in fiscal years 2028 and 2029. 1Section 1.
