88 1.8BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
99 1.9 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 171.187, subdivision 1, is amended to read:​
1010 1.10 Subdivision 1.Suspension required.The commissioner shall suspend the driver's license​
1111 1.11of a person:​
1212 1.12 (1) for whom a peace officer has made the certification described in section 629.344​
1313 1.13that probable cause exists to believe that the person violated section 609.2112, subdivision​
1414 1.141, paragraph (a), clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); 609.2113, subdivision 1, clause (2), (3), (4),​
1515 1.15(5), or (6); subdivision 2, clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); or subdivision 3, clause (2), (3),​
1616 1.16(4), (5), or (6); or 609.2114, subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6), or​
1717 1.17subdivision 2, clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); or​
1818 1.18 (2) who has been formally charged with a violation of section 609.20, 609.205, 609.2112,​
1919 1.19609.2113, or 609.2114, resulting from the operation of a motor vehicle.​
2020 1.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to​
2121 1.21certifications made on or after that date.​

3131 The bill was read for the first time and referred to the Committee on Public Safety Finance and Policy​ 2.1 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 171.187, subdivision 3, is amended to read:​
3232 2.2 Subd. 3.Credit.If a person whose driver's license was suspended under subdivision 1​
3333 2.3is later convicted of the underlying offense that resulted in the suspension and the​
3434 2.4commissioner revokes the person's license, the commissioner shall credit the time accrued​
3535 2.5under the suspension period toward the revocation period imposed under section 171.17,​
3636 2.6subdivision 4, or for violations of section 609.20, or 609.205, or 609.2112, subdivision 1,​
3737 2.7paragraph (a), clause (1), (7), or (8); 609.2113, subdivision 1, clause (1), (7), or (8);​
3838 2.8subdivision 2, clause (1), (7), or (8); or subdivision 3, clause (1), (7), or (8); or 609.2114,​
3939 2.9subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (1), (7), or (8), or subdivision 2, clause (1), (7), or (8).​
4040 2.10 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025.​
4141 2.11 Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 629.344, is amended to read:​
4242 2.12 629.344 CRIMINAL VEHICULAR OPERATION AND MANSLAUGHTER;​
4343 2.13CERTIFICATION OF PROBABLE CAUSE BY PEACE OFFICER.​
4444 2.14 If a peace officer determines that probable cause exists to believe that a person has​
4545 2.15violated section 609.2112, subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6);​
4646 2.16609.2113, subdivision 1, clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); subdivision 2, clause (2), (3), (4),​
4747 2.17(5), or (6); or subdivision 3, clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); or 609.2114, subdivision 1,​
4848 2.18paragraph (a), clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or (6); or subdivision 2, clause (2), (3), (4), (5), or​
4949 2.19(6), the officer shall certify this determination and notify the commissioner of public safety.​
5050 2.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to​
5151 2.21determinations by a peace officer that probable cause exists made on or after that date.​
