55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. [15.442] NOTICE ON ADVERTISING.​
77 1.7 Subdivision 1.Notice required.An advertisement placed or promotional material​
88 1.8distributed by a state agency or constitutional officer that is produced with state funds or is​
99 1.9aired or presented on media time or space that is purchased with state funds must prominently​
1010 1.10contain the message, "Paid for by the hardworking taxpayers of Minnesota." This requirement​
1111 1.11applies to advertisements placed through any medium, including radio, television, print,​
1212 1.12websites, or social media. The required message in a radio advertisement must be in audio​
1313 1.13form. The required message in an advertisement in video form must be presented as text​
1414 1.14and in audio form. The required message in an advertisement in print media must be​
1515 1.15prominently displayed as text.​
1616 1.16 Subd. 2.Liability for failure to comply.The commissioner of an agency or a​
1717 1.17constitutional officer for an office that places an advertisement or distributes promotional​
1818 1.18material that does not comply with the message requirement in subdivision 1 is personally​
1919 1.19liable to the state for the cost of producing and placing the advertisement. Penalties paid​
2020 1.20under this subdivision are deposited into the general fund.​
