7 | 7 | | 1.7BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: |

8 | 8 | | 1.8 Section 1. [31.641] CELL-CULTURED PRODUCTS; INSECT PROTEIN. |

9 | 9 | | 1.9 Subdivision 1.Definitions.(a) For purposes of this section, the following terms have |
---|

---|
11 | 11 | | 1.11 (b) "Cell-cultured product" means a food product intended for human consumption and |
---|
12 | 12 | | 1.12derived by harvesting animal cells and artificially replicating those cells in a growth medium |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1.13in a laboratory to produce tissue. |
---|
14 | 14 | | 1.14 (c) "Close proximity" means: |
---|
15 | 15 | | 1.15 (1) immediately before or after the name of the product; |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1.16 (2) in the line of the label immediately before or after the line containing the name of |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1.17the product; or |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1.18 (3) in the same phrase or sentence containing the name of the product. |
---|
19 | 19 | | 1.19 (d) "Insect product" means a food product intended for human consumption and derived |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1.20by combining processed insects with food additives to approximate the texture, flavor, |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1.21appearance, or other aesthetic qualities or the chemical characteristics of any specific type |
---|
22 | 22 | | 1.22of egg, egg product, fish, meat, meat product, poultry, or poultry product. |

37 | 37 | | 2.7 (2) "lab-grown"; or |
---|
38 | 38 | | 2.8 (3) a similar qualifying term or disclaimer approved by the commissioner of agriculture |
---|
39 | 39 | | 2.9and intended to clearly communicate to a consumer the contents of the product. |
---|
40 | 40 | | 2.10 Subd. 3.Insect product labeling required.It is unlawful for any person to sell, offer |
---|
41 | 41 | | 2.11or expose for sale, or have in possession with intent to sell, an insect product at wholesale |
---|
42 | 42 | | 2.12or retail unless: |
---|
43 | 43 | | 2.13 (1) the product label bears, in prominent type equal to or greater in size than the |
---|
44 | 44 | | 2.14surrounding type and in close proximity to the name of the product, the term "insect protein" |
---|
45 | 45 | | 2.15or a similar qualifying term or disclaimer approved by the commissioner of agriculture and |
---|
46 | 46 | | 2.16intended to clearly communicate to a consumer that the product is an insect product; and |
---|
47 | 47 | | 2.17 (2) the ingredient list includes both the common and scientific name of each insect |
---|
48 | 48 | | 2.18incorporated in the insect product. |
---|
49 | 49 | | 2.19 Subd. 4.Grocery stores and other retailers.It is unlawful for any person to sell, offer |
---|
50 | 50 | | 2.20or expose for sale, or have in possession with intent to sell, a cell-cultured product or an |
---|
51 | 51 | | 2.21insect product at retail unless the product is labeled as required in subdivision 2 or 3. |
---|
52 | 52 | | 2.22 Subd. 5.Restaurants and similar establishments.It is unlawful for any person to sell, |
---|
53 | 53 | | 2.23offer or expose for sale, or have in possession with intent to sell, a cell-cultured product, |
---|
54 | 54 | | 2.24an insect product, a food containing a cell-cultured product, or a food containing an insect |
---|
55 | 55 | | 2.25product at a restaurant or other food service establishment unless the product is clearly and |
---|
56 | 56 | | 2.26prominently identified as such on the menu or bill of fare. |
