8 | 8 | | 1.8bronze, not exceeding two in number for each State, of deceased persons who have been citizens |

9 | 9 | | 1.9thereof, and illustrious for their historic renown or for distinguished civic or military services..."; |

11 | 11 | | 1.11 WHEREAS, the state of Minnesota appreciates the opportunity provided by that act; and |

12 | 12 | | 1.12 WHEREAS, Minnesota currently has contributed for display a statue of Maria Sanford and |

13 | 13 | | 1.13a statue of Henry Mower Rice; and |

14 | 14 | | 1.14 WHEREAS, the act of Congress creating Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol was |

15 | 15 | | 1.15amended in 2000 by Section 311 of H.R. 5657, established as law by Public Law 106-554, and |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1.16provides that "Any State may request the Joint Committee on the Library of Congress to approve |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1.17the replacement of a statue the State has provided for display"; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1.18 WHEREAS, the statue of Henry Mower Rice, having been first placed on display in 1916, |
---|
19 | 19 | | 1.19has met the minimum requirement of that act for display for at least ten years; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1.20 WHEREAS, by this resolution, the state has selected the Honorable Hubert H. Humphrey, |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1.21former Vice President of the United States, to be newly commemorated; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | 1.22 WHEREAS, Hubert H. Humphrey served as Mayor of Minneapolis from 1945 to 1948; and |
