66 1.6 Section 1. [144.1915] OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY GRANT​
77 1.7PROGRAM.​
88 1.8 Subdivision 1.Definitions.(a) For purposes of this section, the following terms have​
99 1.9the meanings given.​
1010 1.10 (b) "Commissioner" means the commissioner of health.​
1111 1.11 (c) "Occupational medicine residency program" means a program that:​
1212 1.12 (1) is located in Minnesota;​
1313 1.13 (2) is accredited as an occupational medicine residency program or is a candidate for​
1414 1.14accreditation; and​
1515 1.15 (3) trains medical residents in the specialty of occupational medicine.​
1616 1.16 Subd. 2.Program administration.(a) The commissioner must award occupational​
1717 1.17medicine residency grants to existing, eligible, not-for-profit occupational medicine residency​
1818 1.18programs to support existing and new residency positions. Funds must be allocated first to​
1919 1.19proposed new residency positions for occupational medicine, and remaining funds must be​
2020 1.20allocated proportionally based on the number of existing residents in eligible programs. The​
2121 1.21commissioner may fund a new residency position for up to three years.​

3030 Referred to Health and Human Services​ 2.1 (b) Grant funds awarded under this section may only be spent to cover the costs of:​
3131 2.2 (1) establishing, maintaining, or expanding training for occupational medicine residents;​
3232 2.3 (2) recruitment, training, and retention of occupational medicine residents and faculty;​
3333 2.4 (3) travel and lodging for occupational medicine residents;​
3434 2.5 (4) salaries for occupational medicine faculty, residents, and preceptors; and​
3535 2.6 (5) training site improvements, fees, equipment, and supplies required for new residency​
3636 2.7positions for occupational medicine residents.​
3737 2.8 (c) Grant funds must not be used to supplant any other government or private funds​
3838 2.9available for these purposes.​
3939 2.10 Subd. 3.Applications.Eligible occupational medicine residency programs seeking a​
4040 2.11grant under this section must submit an application to the commissioner. The application​
4141 2.12must include objectives, a related work plan and budget, a description of the number of new​
4242 2.13and existing residency positions that will be supported using grant funds, and any additional​
4343 2.14information the commissioner determines to be necessary. The commissioner must determine​
4444 2.15whether applications are complete and responsive and may require revisions or additional​
4545 2.16information before awarding a grant.​
4646 2.17 Subd. 4.Program oversight.The commissioner must require and collect from​
4747 2.18occupational medicine residency programs receiving grants information necessary to​
4848 2.19administer and evaluate the program. The evaluation must include the scope of expansion​
4949 2.20of new residency positions and information describing specific programs to enhance existing​
5050 2.21residency positions, which may include facility improvements. The commissioner must​
5151 2.22collect data on occupational medicine residency shortages.​
5252 2.23 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION.​
5353 2.24 $....... in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of​
5454 2.25health for the occupational medicine residency grant program under Minnesota Statutes,​
5555 2.26section 144.1915. The commissioner may use up to $....... of this appropriation for program​
5656 2.27administration.​
