| 8 | 8 | | 1.8 Subdivision 1.Definitions.(a) For purposes of this section, the following terms have |

| 9 | 9 | | 1.9the meanings given. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1.10 (b) "Easement" means the acquisition or designation of private or public land for the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1.11purpose of constructing, maintaining, or improving certain project elements related to a |

| 12 | 12 | | 1.12road construction project. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1.13 (c) "Local approval" means the approval by a statutory or home rule charter city, county, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1.14or town either by: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1.15 (1) a formal resolution adopted by the governing body of the local government unit; or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1.16 (2) a vote at the next general election and, if approved by a majority of those voting on |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1.17the question, becoming effective following the final canvass of the election. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1.18 (d) "Roadway project elements" means the construction, maintenance, improvement, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1.19capacity expansion, reconstruction, resurfacing, or any other development of roadway |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 1.20infrastructure including shoulders, ditches, and culverts for the exclusive use of motor |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 1.21vehicle travel on the trunk highway system. |
