1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to energy; appropriating money to evaluate the state's geologic hydrogen 1.3 potential. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; NATURAL RESOURCES RESEARCH INSTITUTE. 1.6 (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, paragraph (j), 1.7$650,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the renewable development account in 1.8the special revenue fund under Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, to the 1.9Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota for the Natural Resources Research Institute 1.10to evaluate the state's geologic hydrogen potential. 1.11 (b) The evaluation must include: 1.12 (1) the availability of the mined hydrogen resource; 1.13 (2) the feasibility of extracting the hydrogen from underground deposits; 1.14 (3) the potential groundwater management challenges; and 1.15 (4) cost-effective strategies for storing and transporting mined hydrogen. 1.16 (c) The Natural Resources Research Institute must submit the evaluation and interim 1.17report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with 1.18jurisdiction over energy policy and finance by May 15, 2027, and a final report by May 15, 1.192028. 1Section 1. 25-04879 as introduced03/17/25 REVISOR CKM/EH SENATE STATE OF MINNESOTA S.F.
