1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to state government; appropriating money for Native American culture,
1.3 arts, and history programs.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS; INDIAN AFFAIRS COUNCIL.
1.6 (a) $2,500,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $2,500,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated
1.7from the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council for competitive grants
1.8for Native American culture, arts, and history programs.
1.9 (b) $850,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $850,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.10the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council to provide grants to Minnesota
1.11Tribal Nations to preserve the Dakota and Ojibwe Indian languages and to foster education
1.12programs and services for Dakota and Ojibwe languages.
1.13 (c) $650,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $650,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.14the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council for grants to Dakota and
1.15Ojibwe language-immersion educational institutions.
1.16 (d) $600,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $600,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.17the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council to provide grants to preserve
1.18Dakota and Ojibwe languages through support and services dedicated to educational programs
1.19and immersion efforts in Dakota and Ojibwe languages.
1.20 (e) $50,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $50,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.21the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council for a Dakota and Ojibwe
1.22Indian languages working group coordinated by the Indian Affairs Council.
