88 1.8 WHEREAS, recent proposals and legislative efforts at the federal level have raised concerns​
99 1.9about potential cuts, privatization, or other measures that could undermine the viability of Medicare​
1010 1.10and Social Security; and​
1111 1.11 WHEREAS, any reductions in benefits or limitations on eligibility would place an undue​
1212 1.12burden on Minnesota's seniors and most vulnerable residents, jeopardizing their ability to afford​
1313 1.13health care, prescription medications, and basic living expenses; and​
1414 1.14 WHEREAS, nearly half of older Americans have no retirement savings and more than half​
1515 1.15of older adults rely on Social Security for a majority of their income; and​
1616 1.16 WHEREAS, Social Security lifts more than 16 million older adults and almost one million​
1717 1.17children out of poverty every year; and​
1818 1.18 WHEREAS, ensuring the solvency and effectiveness of these programs is not only a matter​
1919 1.19of economic security but also a reflection of our commitment to the dignity and well-being of our​
2020 1.20residents; and​
2121 1.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Minnesota State Senate condemns any​
2222 1.22federal legislative or executive actions that would reduce or eliminate Medicare or Social Security​
2323 1.23for Minnesota seniors.​
