1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to education; requiring student teacher placement within certain distance;
1.3 removing requirements for a teacher candidate performance assessment; requiring
1.4 rulemaking.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. TEACHER CANDIDATE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT;
1.7RULEMAKING.
1.8 Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the Professional Educator Licensing and
1.9Standards Board must discontinue requiring parts, portions, tasks, or the totality of the
1.10edTPA performance assessment to be completed by teacher candidates. The board must
1.11amend Minnesota Rules, part 8705.2100, to remove requirements for the performance
1.12assessment.
1.13 Sec. 2. STUDENT TEACHER PLACEMENT; RULEMAKING.
1.14 The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board must amend Minnesota Rules,
1.15part 8705.1010, to require a student teacher to be placed within 30 miles of their preferred
1.16location or school site unless the teacher preparatory program and teacher candidate mutually
1.17agree to a placement further away from the teacher candidate's preferred location.
