4	4	1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
5	5	1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 168.123, subdivision 2, is amended to read:
6	6	1.6 Subd. 2.Design.The commissioner of veterans affairs shall design the emblem for the
7	7	1.7veterans' special plates, subject to the approval of the commissioner, that satisfy the following
8	8	1.8requirements:
9	9	1.9 (a) For a Vietnam veteran who served after July 1, 1961, and before July 1, 1978, in the
10	10	1.10active military service in a branch of the armed forces of the United States or a nation or
11	11	1.11society allied with the United States the special plates must bear the inscription "VIETNAM
12	12	1.12VET."
13	13	1.13 (b) For a veteran stationed on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, or offshore, during the attack
14	14	1.14on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the special plates must bear the inscription "PEARL
15	15	1.15HARBOR SURVIVOR."
16	16	1.16 (c) For a veteran who served during World War II, the plates must bear the inscription
17	17	1.17"WORLD WAR VET."
18	18	1.18 (d) For a veteran who served during the Korean Conflict, the special plates must bear
19	19	1.19the inscription "KOREAN VET."
20	20	1.20 (e) For a combat wounded veteran who is a recipient of the Purple Heart medal, the
21	21	1.21plates must bear the inscription "COMBAT WOUNDED VET" and have a facsimile or an
22	22	1.22emblem of the official Purple Heart medal.

31	31	Referred to Transportation 2.1 A member of the United States armed forces who is serving actively in the military and
32	32	2.2who is a recipient of the Purple Heart medal is also eligible for this license plate. The
33	33	2.3commissioner of public safety shall ensure that information regarding the required proof of
34	34	2.4eligibility for any applicant under this paragraph who has not yet been issued military
35	35	2.5discharge papers is distributed to the public officials responsible for administering this
36	36	2.6section.
37	37	2.7 (f) For a Persian Gulf War veteran, the plates must bear the inscription "GULF WAR
38	38	2.8VET." For the purposes of this section, "Persian Gulf War veteran" means a person who
39	39	2.9served on active duty after August 1, 1990, in a branch of the armed forces of the United
40	40	2.10States or a nation or society allied with the United States or the United Nations during
41	41	2.11Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, or other military operation in the Persian
42	42	2.12Gulf area combat zone as designated in United States Presidential Executive Order No.
43	43	2.1312744, dated January 21, 1991.
44	44	2.14 (g) For a veteran who served in the Laos War after July 1, 1961, and before July 1, 1978,
45	45	2.15the special plates must bear the inscription "LAOS WAR VET."
46	46	2.16 (h) For a veteran who is the recipient of:
47	47	2.17 (1) the Iraq Campaign Medal, the special plates must be inscribed with a facsimile of
48	48	2.18that medal and must bear the inscription "IRAQ WAR VET" directly below the special
49	49	2.19plate number;
50	50	2.20 (2) the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the special plates must be inscribed with a facsimile
51	51	2.21of that medal and must bear the inscription "AFGHAN WAR VET" directly below the
52	52	2.22special plate number;
53	53	2.23 (3) the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the special plates must be
54	54	2.24inscribed with a facsimile of that medal and must bear the inscription "GWOT VETERAN"
55	55	2.25directly below the special plate number; or
56	56	2.26 (4) the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the special plates must bear an appropriate
57	57	2.27inscription that includes a facsimile of that medal.
58	58	2.28 (i) For a veteran who is the recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,
59	59	2.29the special plates must be inscribed with a facsimile of that medal and must bear the
60	60	2.30inscription "GWOT VETERAN" directly below the special plate number. In addition, any
61	61	2.31member of the National Guard or other military reserves who has been ordered to federally
62	62	2.32funded state active service under United States Code, title 32, as defined in section 190.05,
63	63	2.33subdivision 5b, and who is the recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, is
64	64	2Section 1.

66	66	3.2qualifies as a veteran under section 197.447.
67	67	3.3 (j) For a veteran who is the recipient of the Korean Defense Service Medal, the special
68	68	3.4plates must be inscribed with a facsimile of that medal and must bear the inscription
69	69	3.5"KOREAN DEFENSE SERVICE" directly below the special plate number.
70	70	3.6 (k) For a veteran who is a recipient of the Bronze Star medal, the plates must bear the
71	71	3.7inscription "BRONZE STAR VET" and have a facsimile or an emblem of the official Bronze
72	72	3.8Star medal.
73	73	3.9 (l) For a veteran who is a recipient of the Silver Star medal, the plates must bear the
74	74	3.10inscription "SILVER STAR VET" and have a facsimile or an emblem of the official Silver
75	75	3.11Star medal.
76	76	3.12 (m) For a woman veteran, the plates must bear the inscription "WOMAN VETERAN"
77	77	3.13and have a facsimile or an emblem as designated by the commissioners of veterans affairs
78	78	3.14and public safety.
79	79	3.15 (n) For a Jewish war veteran, the plates must bear the inscription "JEWISH WAR
80	80	3.16VETERANS OF AMERICA" and have a facsimile or an emblem as designated by the
81	81	3.17commissioners of veterans affairs and public safety.
