55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. [624.7139] STOLEN FIREARMS; REQUIRED REPORTING.​
77 1.7 Subdivision 1.Duty to report.A person who steals a firearm shall report the theft to a​
88 1.8law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which the theft occurred as soon as practicable​
99 1.9but not later than within 48 hours of the theft.​
1010 1.10 Subd. 2.Penalty.(a) A person who violates this section is guilty of a petty misdemeanor.​
1111 1.11 (b) A person who violates this section a second time is guilty of a misdemeanor.​
1212 1.12 (c) A person who violates this section a third or subsequent time is guilty of a gross​
1313 1.13misdemeanor.​
1414 1.14 Subd. 3.Report to commissioner of public safety.A chief of police or sheriff shall​
1515 1.15report a stolen firearm to the commissioner of public safety within seven days of receiving​
1616 1.16notification of the theft under this section.​
1717 1.17 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to acts​
1818 1.18committed on or after that date.​
1919 1.19 Sec. 2. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY; APPROPRIATION.​
