1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 99,
1.6ESKO; AMERICAN INDIAN MASCOT REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT COSTS.
1.7 Subdivision 1.Department of Education.The sum indicated in this section is
1.8appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education in the fiscal year
1.9designated.
1.10 Subd. 2.Independent School District No. 99, Esko; American Indian mascot removal
1.11and replacement costs.(a) For reimbursement to Independent School District No. 99,
1.12Esko, for American Indian mascot removal and replacement costs to comply with Minnesota
1.13Statutes, section 121A.041:

1.15 (b) The commissioner must reimburse the school district for the costs of removing and
1.16replacing an American Indian mascot on school facilities and equipment, including athletic
1.17uniforms, clocks, school signage, tribute markers, chairs, tables, entryway flooring,
1.18gymnasium flooring, athletic field artificial turf, and gymnasium wall mats. To be eligible
1.19for reimbursement, an expense must have been incurred by the school district on or after
1.20June 1, 2023.
1.21 (c) This appropriation is available until June 30, 2028. This is a onetime appropriation.
