| 5 | 5 | | 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: |

| 6 | 6 | | 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 197.23, subdivision 1, is amended to read: |

| 7 | 7 | | 1.7 Subdivision 1.Authorization.The commissioner of veterans affairs may shall provide, |

| 8 | 8 | | 1.8within available funds and upon request of a county veterans service officer or any |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1.9congressionally chartered veterans organization, an appropriate marker for the grave of any |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1.10veteran as defined under section 197.447. Any marker provided must be used for memorial |

| 11 | 11 | | 1.11purposes to permanently mark the grave of a veteran buried within the limits of the state. |
