| 5 | 5 | | 1.5 Section 1. [168.1289] DONATE LIFE SPECIAL PLATES. |

| 6 | 6 | | 1.6 Subdivision 1.Issuance of plates.The commissioner must issue Donate Life special |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1.7plates or a single motorcycle plate to an applicant who: |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1.8 (1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, noncommercial one-ton pickup |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1.9truck, motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1.10 (2) pays an additional fee in the amount specified for special plates under section 168.12, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1.11subdivision 5; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1.12 (3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1.13 (4) pays the fees required under this chapter; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1.14 (5) contributes a minimum of $10 annually to the Donate Life account; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1.15 (6) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1.16licensing of drivers. |

| 17 | 17 | | 1.17 Subd. 2.Design.In consultation with Donate Life, the commissioner must adopt a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1.18suitable plate design that includes the Donate Life marks and colors. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1.19 Subd. 3.Plates transfer.On application to the commissioner and payment of a transfer |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 1.20fee of $5, special plates issued under this section may be transferred to another motor vehicle |

| 36 | 36 | | 2.7in the special revenue fund. Money in the account is annually appropriated to the |

| 37 | 37 | | 2.8commissioner. This appropriation is first for the annual cost of administering the account |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 2.9funds, and the remaining funds are for distribution to Donate Life to further the organization's |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 2.10mission and purpose of promoting organ and tissue donation. |

| 40 | 40 | | 2.11 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2026, for Donate Life special |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 2.12plates issued on or after that date. |
