inspectionsofcertainestablishments.
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatthebillremovesantiquated
languagefromthestatuterelatingtosafetyinspectionsthatare
conductedbytheDepartmentofLaborandIndustrialRelationsunder
theoldlawinexistencesince1939.Thefederalgovernment
enactedtheOccupationalSafetyandHealthAdministration (OSHA)
whichsupercedestheauthoritytoregulatethefunctionsrelating
toinspections. TheDivisionofLaborStandards(DLS)hasauthority
toinspectthepublicfacilitiesandthecomplaintsarereferredto
OSHA.Currently,thereissomeconfusionasquestionsareraised
astowhyDLSisnotconductingitsduties.Thesolutionisto
eliminatethearchaiclanguageandcleanupthestatute,whichhas
noeffectondollarsorjobs.TheDLSon-sitesafetycontinuesto
dothesafetyinspectionsandsanitationissuesaretakencareof
bylocalcounties.
