| 11 | 11 | | Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Section A. Chapter 71, RSMo, is amended by adding there to 1 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | one new section, to be known as section 71.924, to read as 2 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | follows:3 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 71.924. 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 1 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 71.012 and 71.015, the governing body of any home rule city 2 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | with more than one hundred sixty thousand inhabitants but 3 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | fewer than two hundred thousand inhabitants which is located 4 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | within a county of the first classification, proceeding as 5 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | otherwise authorized by law or charter, may annex areas 6 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | within six miles of the city limits and within the 7 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | designated urban service ar ea as authorized by ordinance of 8 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the governing body of the city upon a notarized petition 9 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | requesting such annexation signed by the owners of all fee 10 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | interests of record in all tracts located within the area to 11 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | be annexed. That a petition requesting an nexation is not or 12 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | was not verified or notarized shall not affect the validity 13 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of an annexation heretofore or hereafter undertaken in 14 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | accordance with this section. 15 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2. The fire protection district shall continue to 16 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | collect taxes assessed pursuant to this chapter until 17 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | December thirty-first of the year in which annexation 18 SB 979 2 |

| 33 | 33 | | occurs. Beginning January first of the following year, the 19 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | fire protection district shall not levy and collect any tax 20 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | upon any taxable property annexed by the city; except, t he 21 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | fire protection district may continue to collect delinquent 22 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | taxes levied in previous years. The city shall collect and 23 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | pay to the fire protection district a fee equal to the 24 |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | amount of tax levied on the property in the area annexed 25 |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | during the year in which annexation occurred. For the next 26 |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | subsequent four years, the city shall reduce the amount 27 |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | collected and paid to the fire protection district by twenty 28 |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | percent. 29 |
