Thisbillestablishesthe"AlexanderWhalenSafeHighwaysAct",
requiringtheDepartmentofTransportation toimplementwrong-way
vehicledetectionsystems(WWVDSs),asdefinedintheact.
Implementation willbeginnolaterthanMarch1,2026,andwill
prioritizehigh-riskinterchanges,asspecifiedintheact.
WWVDSswillbeintegratedwithdynamicmessagesignstoalertother
driversinthearea,andtheDepartmentwilldevelopasystemto
automaticallynotifyemergencyrespondersintheeventofawrong-
waydriver.TheDepartmentwillperformastatewideeducation
campaigntoinformdriversaboutwrong-waydrivingrisksandsafety
measures,andwillannuallyreporttotheGeneralAssemblyand
JointCommitteeonTransportation Oversightregardingthe
implementation andeffectivenessofWWVDSs.
